Moodus, CT – We're saddened to announce that, as of August 2019, Middlesex County Camp will be closing its doors. This news comes in the wake of many months of difficult deliberation by its Board of Directors, as well as a thorough review of the Camp's financial position in relation to its operating costs and management of its facilities and grounds. A search will soon begin to list the property for sale, with hopeful priority given to another camp being able to use the land in the future.

Since we opened in 1962, the world has changed, especially in the last decade or so with the rise of technology. The Camp deeply felt the weight of the 2008 financial collapse, which it voyaged through thanks to the support of its community. However, despite some strong years, revamped programming, and new board member recruitment, the camp posted several years with low camper registration numbers. As this was its primary source of income, eventually the year-over-year losses depleted the Camp's accrued savings. In an attempt to keep Camp open, the Board reached out to numerous corporations and philanthropic parties for support, but, despite this effort, the capital raised would still not meet its operating costs, thus making opening unviable for the future.

The Board would like to thank everyone who was a part of our camp's history since its inception. Whether as a camper, counselor-in-training, counselor, volunteer, or director, each played a unique role in allowing the Camp to be a part of the Moodus community for nearly 60 years. For that, the Board will be forever grateful.
