Wrap Up: Camp 2013 – Week 3

TIME WARP

Week 3 began with campers and staff being divided into 3 Legions of Archeologists. These Legions included The Keepers of the Past, Protectors of the Present, and Guardians of the Future. These groups explored not only notable eras of time, but also significant locations around the world in order to find the one object that would save the world! Quite a big task to accomplish in one week!

Due to the weather on Tuesday night we were unable to go on the over-night, however everyone enjoyed a movie night in the dining hall! The kids watched Dream WorksRoad to Eldorado and kept with the theme by taking a glimpse into Ancient Civilizations. After the storm passed and the movie ended, the kids enjoyed the rest of their nights and spent some much needed bonding time with their cabins.

Come Wednesday, the whole camp took a leap into different time eras throughout history. The different Legions continued to battle in order to be the group to save the world. The activities of the night included the chariot races of Ancient Rome, building of cities, and even a baby picture match-up. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the activities, especially the picture-match up where they had to match the baby picture to the appropriate staff member!

The week continued with many activities and games from the past including Hop-scotch, Double-dutch, and even twister! The Dance was also a big hit, especially with kid-friendly version of “Time-Warp” and many songs of the 90’s!

Time warp week has been so entertaining and the kids seemed to enjoy the many different games and activities! In the end the Protectors of the Past were the champions and they inevitable were able to save the world! Such a big relief for all of us here at camp! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we also hope to see lots of retuning faces throughout the summer!

HOLIDAY WEEK

With Holiday week coming to a close, the kids have enjoyed everything from trick-or-treating to “pie” eating contests. The events of this week were extremely entertaining and had everyone laughing and smiling. If this week is any indicator of what is to come, this summer is going to be full of new and exciting events!

The highlight of this week was most definitely the celebration of “Pie Day.” During cabin activity, everyone came together to celebrate this“forgotten”holiday in the best way we know how; pie-ing counselors in the face. The kids eagerly and happily celebrated their new favorite holiday and every photo will reveal how much fun everyone truly had.

Another big activity that took place this week was our slip-and-slide! A mix of soap, shaving cream, and tons of mud made for very happy and extremely dirty campers and staff. This event was turned into a fun game where team members had to climb up the slippery slope in order to collect a coin, followed by racing back down and inevitable sliding into the “mud pit.”

The campers and staff will definitely be exhausted from all of the activities and events of this week! We hope everyone enjoyed Holiday week and that they will have made many memories that will last them forever!

Wrap Up: Camp 2013 – Week 1

AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 DAYS

This week at MCC, the theme was Around the World in 5 days. Our goal was to teach kids about different cultures around the world. On Monday night electives, the children were able to choose from an array of activities, including soccer, Nookum and tie dye. On Tuesday, we went into the woods to cook burgers and hot dogs. Wednesday we had an around the world themed all camp, and Thursday we had an amazing dance with music from everywhere.

MCC went from Middlesex County camp to Middlesex Cultural Camp.

Having electives on Mondays give the kids a lot of leeway their first night at camp. We get to know the kids better by watching the electives they choose and playing by their sides. At tie dye, they were able to discover there creative talents with Kristen and Aimee. At Nookum everyone was able to play a new game that not many people know. It’s a team based sport you play on the volley ball court and everyone is involved and working together. Soccer was nice to have as an option because many of the kids felt comfortable playing a sport they were already familiar with.

Everyone enjoyed eating burgers and dogs cooked over the fire in the woods on Tuesday nights. It was a great time for cabins to bond around the fire pit, sing songs, and play games. After everyone was stuffed from dinner and s’mores, they headed over to a camp site called Big Rock. There they played a game, sort of like hide and seek and flashlight tag combined, called Scout. Then to top off the night in the wilderness the children and counselors got to sleep under the stars on the black top!

All camp fell on Wednesday. Everything was themed to around the world in 5 days. Kids got to travel to the pyramids of Giza, the Roman Coliseum, the Running of the Bulls festival in Spain, and to China to learn about the elements and the Chinese calendar. At each spot the kids were able to play a game and try and earn a piece for there team. The team with the most pieces at the end of the night was our “world champion”.

On Thursday we danced the night away to all kinds of music. It was nice to have the whole camp together and let loose for a while. We listened to artist from all over the world. Most of the kids were surprised to find out some of their favorite singers were not even from America.

All in all our week was a blast. It was fun to learn about other cultures and mix fun in the middle. From American tie dye, to Spanish running of the bulls, it was a busy week but a fun one at that. Many kids asked to sign up for more weeks after that and we expect to have just as much fun for weeks to come.
