Wrap Up: Camp 2013: Week 6

OLYMPICS

Week 6 brought with it our own personal celebration of the Olympics. The theme made for a very athletic and talent filled week. The campers and staff were eager to show off their own personal skills and earn compete in various competitions!  The week began with everyone being divided into 5 very random countries including; Venezuela, Guatemala, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Malaysia! Throughout the week these countries worked together in order to be the overall gold medalists of the MCC 2013 Olympics.

Per tradition, Tuesday night had the campers and staff enjoying the overnight. Everyone ventured out into the woods to their designated camp sites and enjoyed cooking and bonding by the fire. The evening continued with a camp-wide game of Scout at Big Rock. The kids practiced their ninja-like instincts in order to sneak all the way to Big Rock without being spotted. After the games ended, everyone headed back to their campsites for more cabin bonding time and a night under the stars.

On Wednesday night the camp was in full Olympic swing! The activities of the night included; a swimming relay, the long jump, the free throw, shot-put, and discuss. The campers were able to discover new games and talents all while having fun and competing for their teams! Though the goal of the games was to win medals for your country, the overall goal was to make the kids smile and have a fun time!

With the week winding down, the dance was a great way to celebrate all the fun we had had throughout the week. Everyone dressed in their favorite outfits and even bathed just took look their very best! The campers and staff danced all evening long and sang at the top of their lungs to all of their favorite songs. By the end of the night everyone was exhausted from all of the excitement and dancing and they were all ready for bed!

The week seemed to fly by with all of the fun filled activities and games which made the campers and staff sad to see the week come to an end. We hope that the week will forever be remembered by the campers and staff and that it will make for even more returning campers in the future! Again, we had another fantastic week this summer and we hope the fun and excitement only continues as the summer begins to wind down.

Wrap Up: Camp 2013: Week 5

THE HUNGER GAMES

Week 5 has been our largest week this summer with a little over 70 campers! Our guess is that this may be due to the fact that we had the epic idea of “Hunger Games” for this week’s theme. The week began with the campers being divided into the 12 career/specialty districts and counselors were assigned to every group to play the role of their “mentors”. The campers and staff were very enthusiastic about the week theme so I made for a very fun and exciting time!

Throughout the week there were several activities and games for the districts to compete in. The groups were able to earn “money” for their district through these various games. One of the highlight activities included the presentation of each district’s tributes. Every district had the opportunity to dress up their tributes in order to represent that districts career specialty. There was everything from horses and monkeys, to robots and super models and of course TONS of glitter…EVERYWERE! The campers and staffed thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and everyone worked hard in order to represent their districts!

On Wednesday, we celebrated our own version of the Hunger Games with a camp wide All Camp. The campers and staff once again joined their districts and competed in fire building competitions and even swimming races! The night ended with tributes from each team entering the arena for the final competition! The kids in the arena played a thrilling and twist filled version of doge ball.  The games included everything from Tracker Jackers all the way to med kits, just like in the books and the movie! The night was a huge success and the MCC Hunger Games left everyone cheering and rooting for their districts!

Overall, the week was a huge success with tons of laughs and smiles. The campers and staff had a great time participating in all of the new and creative activities! The staff also did a great job to create our very own version of the Hunger games! Everyone’s competitive side as well as their creativity really came through this week! Hunger Games week will definitely be a memory that the kids will remember forever! We really hope to see everyone’s faces again this summer as well as summers to come!

Wrap up: Camp 2013 – Week 4

Cowboys vs. Aliens vs. Pirates vs. Ninjas

With the theme of Cowboys vs. Aliens vs. Pirates vs. Ninjas, it was evident that this week was going to be an interesting one at that. Despite the intense heat we have experienced the past few days, the excitement of camp life has not dulled a bit. With every camper split off into four different teams (Cowboys, Aliens, Pirates, and Ninjas), there was plenty of intense competitions and entertainment for all. Every team fought for the title of champion through many fun activities from Nuke’m to Ships-and-Sailors to Laser Tag!

Tuesday night was very successful and eventful with the camp-out. Every cabin collected their sleeping bags and flashlights and headed out to the woods to spend a night under the stars! Between burgers and s’mores, cabins shared quality bonding time together and got to know all of their cabin mates. After everyone was fed and full, the cabins all met at big rock for an epic game of Scout! After all the excitement and games, everyone returned to their campsites for their night under the stars.

Wednesday brought even more thrill with a camp wide Laser Tag game! Everyone was very excited to participate in the event and compete against their rival teams. With everything from obstacles to fog clouds the kids and staff alike where continuously smiling and laughing! The whole game was a complete success and everyone went to bed tired but very happy!

With the week coming to a close, there is never a better way to end the fun then the dance. All of the campers a staff dressed in their very best (and least smelly) clothes, just to dance the night away! There were many smiles and lots of moves on the dance floor and everyone seemed to be having a great time! Though the week may be coming to an end, the memories made this week will last forever!

Once again, another successful and entertaining week here at MCC! We hope to see lots of returning faces in weeks and summers to come.
